Dehradun : It is that time of the year when nature unleashes its fury and the monsoon effect has had some disastrous results in Uttarakhand. Following this, the Uttarakhand government has issued a red alert on Thursday night after a series of landslides due to the incessant rains. 10 people have been confirmed dead in the fury.
The alert was issued in the insistence of Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank who had advised the administration after the rains wreaked havoc in areas especially in the Chardham and Kailash Mansarovar yatra areas.
Taking a proactive approach in this hour of distress, the CM also ordered the cancellation of leaves of all medical and hospital staff, police, and other personnel.
The tourists who are on pilgrimage to the popular Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri have been stranded in the landslides. This coupled with flashfloods and boulders falling on to roads are only making matters worse. The national highways leading to the shrines have been blocked to this very reason.
In spite of this, the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway that was blocked was reopened for traffic. These roads leadup to the Badrinath shrine. However, the Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway still remained blocked for the fourth day due to the continued landslides. The same situation prevails in the Rishikesh-Yamunotri national highway.
